Bottle Gourd comes with a lot of health benefits. It is a rich source of vitamin K, C and Calcium. It has high water content, thereby keeping major health parameters under check!

Bottle Gourd belongs to a group of vegetables with zero wastage! Yes, though it is used in curries by peeling off the skin, the skin itself need not be discarded. Check this space in the coming days to know more!

Being rich in Vitamins, water and iron, it is considered to be a ‘Go-to’ vegetable to serve breastfeeding mothers, thereby , easily slipping into the ‘Postpartum Recovery Meal Plan


There are numerous dishes possible with this vegetable! But, this one, is the easiest, fastest, simple and the tastiest!

Total Time: 20 minutes

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

Bottle Gourd : 1 (Washed, peeled and chopped)
Salt: As per taste
Jaggery: Little
Pepper powder: As per taste

Tempering:
Ghee: 1 tbsp.
Mustard seeds: 0.5 tsp.
Jeera: 0.5 tsp.

Method:

  • In a pan, prepare the tempering
  • Once done, add the chopped vegetables, salt, jaggery, pepper powder and little water
  • Close the lid and cook in medium heat for a few minutes (Until it is cooked) (As the vegetable is soft, it cooks in a jiffy)
  • Remove from heat. Serve it fresh with piping hot rice with a dollop of ghee!

Note :

  • If it is not part of any food diet( As it is here), you may top it with fresh grated coconut
  • You may optionally use dry red chili for tempering

Bottle Gourd Palya stories:

We usually have local, freshly available vegetables. But, whenever we visit the nearby Indian store, we do ensure to bring certain Indian veggies too (our daughter’s favorite) and one among them is Bottle Gourd! Post delivery days though, my husband ensured he visits the Indian Store at least once in 10 days as lot of my Postpartum Recovery Meal plan recipes revolved around the Indian vegetables. And of all the dishes prepared out of Bottle Gourd, this one is our daughter’s favorite! Ours too, but only after Bottle Gourd Halwa | Lauki ka Halwa!
