To make the ganache thicker, in case it is thin:

If the ganache is thin, it will make the cake very soggy,  and the cake might eventually break. So, it is very important to make the ganache of the right consistency. In this situation, keep adding chocolates in the hot milk-butter mixture till it attains the required consistency

To make the ganache thinner, in case it too thick to pour:

If the ganache is thick, you may apply it as frosting over the cake, but if you want it to be flowy, keep adding milk to it and mix well, till it attains the required consistency

  • You may preserve the remaining ganache for a day or two and use it as a topping over ice-cream / cake or any sweet dessert
  • If you want the cake to have a glaze frosting on the top, pour hot ganache over the cake

Ganache Stories:

I have tried different types of frosting to top the cake. This is the easiest among all. You don’t require any instruments to spread the cream / sauce as it is of pourable consistency. Plus, your cake will be ready in no time as the procedure is quicker. The leftover ganache can be preserved and used as a topping over any desserts or ice-creams. I always prepare ganache using chocolate and thick cream. On one occasion, when I prepared the cake, I didn’t have thick cream at home for frosting. So, thought, why not try with normal milk itself. And bingo!!! It did work. I used milk and butter instead of the thick cream as I had them at home.  Most of my customized recipes are as a direct result of ‘non-availability’ of the regular ingredients at home, as it is then that I try to break my routine and do something new.

And as is the norm, my narration at the top is my ganache story. Please do share yours, when you try it out.
