The supermarket shelves in summer are so welcoming, with many colorful fruits around. One cannot resist buying these fresh fruits. Also, the best way to stay hydrated in summers is to pamper yourselves with the goodness of fresh fruits and berries! This is also the best time to bottle these goodness into yummy jams and label them ‘homemade’! Peach jam is one of the tastiest among all. Am sure, you would love it too!

Ingredients:

Fresh peach : About 6 to 7 (500 g)
Gelier Zucker (Jam sugar) / Normal Sugar: 250 g
Lemon juice: 1 tbsp.

Method:

  • Wash, clean and dry the peach

  • In a pot, bring water to boil and dip the peach in it. Let it be in it for about 5 minutes. Remove and de-skin the peaches (blanch)

  • Remove seeds and chop the peaches

  • In another pot, add the chopped peaches and the jam sugar. Mix the two. Let it sit for 10 minutes

  • Now, transfer the pot to the stove and on medium heat, bring the above to boil
  • Add lemon juice to the above and mix well. Gently mash and continue cooking for another 10 minutes

  • Remove from heat and let it cool
  • Bottle it and refrigerate! The jam can easily be preserved upto 4 weeks. But I am sure that it will be emptied out in no time!

  • Note:

  • Why blanch peaches – Peaches can be difficult to peel as the skin is very thin. Blanching them helps to deskin the peaches easily, without loosing out the flesh
  • Ripe peaches are the best for jamming as it gives the natural sweetness to the jam

    Peach Jam stories:

In our Saturday grocery shopping, we end up buying a lot of fruits and veggies, as each of them seem to be very tempting and fresh. Peaches were no different, so much so that my husband ended up buying multiple packs. But as is the case, peaches do not last long and they need to be consumed or at least put to right usage, before they rot. Hence the jam! My daughter, like always, liked it a lot and in no time, the bottle got emptied!
